OneMic - the minimalist recording series
США
Добавлен 25 янв 2017
OneMic (the Minimalistic Recording Series) Recording artists perform two songs around one stereo ribbon microphone. A stereo ribbon microphone's inherent nature allows both sides of the ribbons to be used. Each session is beautifully filmed in 4K video by filmmaker Nathaniel Kohfield. This series is so different from other live performance videos because the artist completely controls his/her presentation. This means that the sound, balance, dynamics, and stereo image are decided upon at the moment of creation, not in post-production. The artist (band) is responsible for the final product. There is no editing of the audio or video. It’s as honest as it can be, including imperfections. This series is produced and engineered by John Cuniberti for JohnCuniberti.com.

I am absolutely blown away by your recordings. Your approach should be taught in every music production course. Surely there is a band out there that would want to record a whole album this way? Is anything like this available?
Imagine my rapid fire shock…”oh wow John Cuniberti has a RUclips channel!…oh wow! It’s recordings done with a single microphone!!!….WHAT!?! A PERFORMANCE BY PSYCHOTIC PINEAPPLE!?!?” 🤯🤯🤯
“You’re gonna lose that girl…”
Grisman's rhythm playing is wonderful
“Getcha groove on” indeed
Thank god for this mic. The actual mic in this video. The idiot pless blue every track we had there. Not one came out. I was worried after a couple hours in there and ask him if he still had that mic. I had him set it up. It’s the only track we got from our Sun Session. I bought one a week later.
That's interesting. The studio is definitely not up to today's acoustics and control room tech standards. I don't think I would go there for a conventional recording session. Personaly, I found Pless a pleasure to work with.
@@onemic-theminimalist he was great the first night. I actually really liked him, but he was pilled out of his head. Couldn’t remember where we had the mics the night before so each night was a nightmare. Set up that ate have the time. We went there to record the old school way. He has no clue what he was doing. The only channels that weren’t distorted beyond use was from that mic and that was good enough to put in a record. All on that one mic. It was my dream to have the place to our selves and we had it for three nights, canceled the fourth. He was just to whacked out. He just seemed to want to talk about his dad. Not make a record. One day, we will go back with our own engineer and do it the way we wanted. Love your content and approach to recording. It’s been a profound inspiration and I’ve learned so much. Thank you. 🫡
@@JacksonTaylorandTheSinners What a shame. Sorry you had to go through that.
@@onemic-theminimalist everyone goes through issues. Pless was going through his. I hope he’s better. We just finished recording at Sam Phillips other studio and they were using the 88 on drums. We’re finishing the record up in OKC and will be loaning them ours to demon. I’m seeing them more and more. You’re definitely spreading the word.
I'm gonna try doing this with a phone to record rehearsals.
You mean have the band self balance? I assume you don’t mean the microphone technique?
Sounds great performance great as well but I think we’re being deceived. Pretty certain they’re taking direct from acoustic guitar
His guitar pickup is in his amp that is set up clean and loud.
What the absolute @#$% this is just incredible... I'm listening at 96k on my ATCs in my studio and I am in there with you mind completely blown!
I'm just siting in my studio watching EVERY video on the OneMic series thinking.... I sure want one of those AEA R88s!
Very inspiring and interesting, thanks ! I suppose talent, experience and placement are prior, but which budget to middle range mic would you use to do The same ? Thanks
Glad to hear you like what I'm doing. Technically, you could use any two microphones that are bi-directional (Blumlein pair)
I don't how many times I have watched this, but each time it becomes more.
Thank you! Very happy to hear you enjoy it that much.
Wow...great recording and great playing!
Thanks for listening Whitman.
What a nice recording! Can you tell us a bit of mastering this?
I added some reverb, compression, EQ, and limiting.
I owned that console for 4 years in my house. Kool piece of history!
The One Mic Series are all excellent. One Finger salute to AI that real music is everything. And what a tribute to Duane Allman and Aretha from their Muscle Shoals work. Great music and recording, thanks for posting.
Excellent and so inspiring. I love the less is more approach to recording. Also, the rooster crow in at the end... Was there a lot of EQ adjustment. I know the 44 is smooth, but surprised that the vocal had good upper response and figured the eq might be pushed up a bunch. The verb really gives great space and width..
No, that's the sound of that mic. Very little EQ was used.
Beautiful. Still using your Millenia?
Yes
Great performance, great sound! Bravo, I love it. Alexander
Thanks a lot!
EXCELLENT ❤!!!!!!!!!
Thank You!
This is just wonderful. UK here and remember the guys on Rock Goes to College - I was 15! They are so underrated. Please do come back and play the UK
I'm recording a weird ensemble soon... violin, cello, clarinet, glockenspiel, drumkit, upright piano... this channel gives me hope that it will be possible with just my Royer SF-12.
pretty great tune/performance/capture. nice work everyone
Thank you. Avery is an amazing performer and songwriter.
Supercalifragicexpialikraykray. Whoo!
Taste has nothing to do with this and I find it sublime. A delightful performance of this magnificent classic. Hear hear.
Many thanks!
That’s a beautiful recording of a well written and performed song
Thank you Garrett, Cole does deliver on this one.
Did you used to live in san fran and work as a personal shopper? Around 911 time frame? I just have never met anyone else named Lynx
may I add…Fuck Yeah
That works for me, thank you!
can we find this stuff on tidal?
Impressive
Legendary
I think so, thank you for watching.
Great as usual. I'm curious why you decided to put the bass cab in front of the kick this time, rather than directly opposite it, also "panned" to center?
I could have put it on the other side but the bass player wanted to be near his amp. It's always in the center although some room’s acoustics can off-center the bottom end.
@@onemic-theminimalistMakes sense from the player's point of view. I was wondering if the kick might be a bit more present if it wasn't covered by the bass amp
Head cheese sounds gross, but after a little browsing I see it's basically like a sausage or lunch meat and most people don't have a problem with that. People probably get hung up on the eyeball part. Personally I'm way more grossed out by lobster or calamari. I am now motivated to give it a try. So not only did this man give me the greasy crunch of Defiance 'Void Terra Firma' but now 34 years layer he's expanding my culinary horizons. Nice.
It's not for everyone, that's for sure.
"It's got eyes and ears and nose and lips and everything we like except the tongue." Genius.
I agree, thanks for watching!.
Wonderful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Grotesque and beautiful all in one package! I have seen him do this live at the Paradise Lounge in the past so am familiar with the song. Mr C. has tightened the focus and really brought this art piece out to where the observer cannot look away. Very entertaining and thoughtful.
Like a car wreck or something.
Hooray!
sick take!
Great! The mic is in mid/side configuration?
Yes, because all the performers are on one side. Normally, I use stereo Blumlein, so I have a stereo field to work in on both sides. on the mic.
This is pure art! By far, my favourite recording of this series. Fully deserves an Apple Music or Tidal upload in the highest quality possible. Too good, for real. My mind is always blown when I hear this
Wow, thank you!
AWESOME. Henricus stepped up to the plate! Great arrangement and fabulous visual.
Glad you enjoyed it!
FANTASTIC!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome

incredible
Thank You!!!
Love it. Not your ordinary everyday song, it makes you want to listen to the lyrics. Sonically fabulous too.
Right? Its an ear worm.
@@onemic-theminimalist My favourite.
ugly. technically great job
Art can be ugly for some, thank you.
Omg, that was amazing! Henricus surpassed all previous renditions of this song. And all the other singers and musicians were superb!
Thank you Nina!
I agree with Jonathan, it's totally rockin'!
Thank You!
